What is Wet Cast Stone?
Edwards manufactures on an everyday basis both the wet cast and dry cast stone, the two most widely used casting methods used today. Each method requires a meticulously proportioned mix design consisting of natural sands combined with graded limestone, which meets the requirement of ASTM-C33. The sand and limestone mixtures are blended with white Portland cement (ASTM-C150) and a blend of coloring pigments ASTM-C979 to create the final mix, whether its wet cast or dry cast. Both methods of casting exceed the industry standard specification of 04720. The compressive strength (ASTM-C1194 exceeds 6500 psi and the absorption rate (ASTM-C1195) is less than six percent (6%).
Wet cast stone is used for larger cast stone such as columns, spandrel face panels and other cast stone products that weigh more than 1-ton, or have supporting anchors in them. Wet cast and dry cast can be used on the same project and we can match colors and textures to ASTM-C1364 standard specification for architectural cast stone. All wet cast products are left in the mold for approximately 24 hours and then stripped.
